Near our hotel was a group of 15 cenotaphs, tombs of the Bundela kings. The first one we explored was the tomb of Jashwant Singh, who ruled from 1675 to 1684 AD.

From the roof we could see the grass-covered tomb of Vir Singh Deo, who ruled from 1605 to 1627 AD. He built the Jahangir Mahal, the Phool Bagh garden, and the Laxmi Temple. His tomb is on the river and stylistically much different from the other tombs. We climbed around inside his tomb for a while. The floor is covered with silt that piles up when the river rises. |
The cenotaphs are "Rajput style" - an amazing blend of Hindu and Mughal styles. You don't see anything like this in Delhi.
